Short Term Accommodation Update
With the new NDIS changes, we understand that navigating the "ins and outs" can be challenging.
We recognise the positive impact an STA can have on a participant’s well-being, capacity building, and opportunities for rest and recovery.
So, rest assured, Zest’s STAs are here to stay, with a few adjustments to improve the experience. Zest has been working hard behind the scenes to ensure we can continue providing Short-Term Accommodations (STAs) to participants while maintaining compliance and enhancing the experience."
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance organising the next STA for your participant
-
Zest will continue to work closely with participants to ensure their STA is individualised and tailored to their goals and needs, while ensuring that requests are reasonable and necessary.
-
Participants must agree to a check-in/check-out shift with a Zest Support Worker. These shifts are designed so staff can meet the participant, answer any questions, offer support, and handle any necessary documents as part of the STA.
-
Participants need to have a Zest Support Worker or their own Support Worker providing services throughout the STA. This is a compliance requirement and a reminder that STAs are not simply holidays, but opportunities for respite while working toward NDIS goals with support.
-
Unfortunately, Zest will no longer be able to assist with interstate STAs.
-
Zest will continue to provide Zeller Cards with allocated funding for food, non-alcoholic drinks, and approved activities, aligned with individual needs.
-
Participants are responsible for collecting receipts and returning them, along with the Zeller Card, to Zest upon completion of the STA.
-
Any unapproved purchases made with the Zeller Card will need to be covered by the participant.
-
Any damages to the accommodation or violation of rules will be the participant’s responsibility.
-
After each STA, Zest provides a detailed report that justifies how the STA aligns with the participant’s NDIS goals. This report can be used for Change of Circumstances requests, reviews, or to share with the NDIS as needed.
Zest recognises the positive impact an STA can have on a participant’s well-being, capacity building, and opportunities for rest and recovery. We are excited to continue supporting participants in accessing these valuable experiences. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance organising the next STA for your participants.

"I had a great time away at my first Respite since 2012!!! He said he will definitely extend his respite next time as he could definitely see the difference "time out" was having on his wellbeing. Thank you Zest for the organisation, communication throughout the planning process and gave an extra special thanks to the Support Workers who made his STA really great. I dont know how you were able to make such good matches but Ashlie, Mads and Mandy were awesome"
"I recently took part in one of Zest's STA's, Which supported me to visit Adelaide for the very first time. Zest workerd with me to make sure I had individualised support from Zest's Support Workers. Despite the questionable weather, I absolutely enjoyed the experience and all of Zest's help to ensure my STA and working towards my NDIS goals"
